Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct field assessments, farm visits and technical gap analyses with export-oriented fruit and vegetable farms and outgrower schemes supported by the project.
• Provide practical agronomic advice to commercial farms and agribusiness companies, focusing on productivity, quality, consistency of supply and market compliance.
• Provide advice on crop planning, production calendars, soil fertility management, fertilizer use, irrigation, crop protection, integrated pest management and safe pesticide use.
• Support improved production practices for export crops such as avocado, mango, banana, pineapple, green beans, sugar snaps, snow peas and other high-potential horticultural crops where relevant.
• Help companies identify and address agronomic bottlenecks affecting yield, quality, reliability of supply, production costs, food safety and export readiness.
• Support farms and SMEs to apply Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and certification (e.g. Global GAP, GRASP), related to safe pesticide handling, pre-harvest intervals, record keeping and basic compliance practices linked to buyer and market requirements.
• Provide practical coaching to farm managers, technical staff, supervisors, outgrower coordinators and producer groups.
• Support the design and implementation of demonstration plots, field trials, farm-level training sessions, field days and technical learning activities.
• Translate field observations and technical findings into clear recommendations, action plans, training materials and technical notes for companies and project partners.
• Work closely with business coaches, finance specialists, exporters, buyers, aggregation actors and project colleagues to connect agronomic advice with commercial farm management and market requirements.
• Support companies to understand the link between agronomic practices, product quality, grading, post-harvest handling, certification, buyer specifications and export performance.
• Contribute to company needs assessments, farm improvement plans, project reports, monitoring data, technical documentation and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Support linkages between selected farms, potential outgrowers, aggregation hubs, packhouses, cold chain actors and market partners where relevant.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistent technical quality, practical knowledge exchange and effective company support.
