Background and Purpose of the Position
The Government of Ethiopia, with support from the World Bank, is implementing the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience (HEPRR) Multiphase Programmatic Approach to strengthen health-system resilience and multisectoral preparedness and response to health emergencies. A key area of HEPRR support is strengthening Ethiopia’s regulatory capacity and local vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing, including through technical assistance to national institutions. Within this framework, the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) plays an important role as a national biomedical research institution with an expanding mandate covering biomedical and clinical research, biotechnology, virology, bioinformatics, and the development of diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines and other health products. AHRI’s mandate also includes supporting the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, with emphasis on strengthening local production, research and innovation, technology transfer and collaboration between research institutions and manufacturers.
